Narrative Mood Board
SHOOT 1
I have looked into David Hockney's piece of work called 'Pearblossom Highway'. Below is a mind map I created on this piece of work:
Below is my own joiner in the style of Hockneys work:
WWW: I really like how my joiner turned out and you can clearly tell it was inspired by David Hockney. I like how vibrant the flower is and it really draws attention to the picture.
EBI: I could've took more photos which are up close and cover the whole flower. Then using photoshop let that put it into a joiner instead of doing it by hand. |
David Hockney created joiners because he wanted to tell a story using multiple photographs and different perspectives. He thought that taking one photograph didn't take enough time or effort so he decided to take more time by taking more photos. He also wanted to focus on small details so he did close ups of photos focusing on certain details.
Narrative ~ a story which can be told in a certain way. Connected events form a story.
SHOOT 2
In class, we tried making a joiner out of skulls. Below are my two examples which I am very pleased with how they tured out. This bit of work was inspired by David Hockney and you can really see the resemblance between them

WWW- I am really pleased with this shoot. You can really see the flower dying and how healthy and full it was at the beginning to it being a withered.
EBI- It'll be better if the lighting stays the same throughout the video, because halfway through the photo goes really dark. The angle i took the photo at also changes, so it will look better if it doesn't change at all or much Next Step- My next step is to make the video flow a bit better. I would like the lighting and position of the camera to be the same in each flame. |
One technique I could use on my narrative photo shoots is colour select areas. I will leave the main subject in the photo (flower) the original colour but change the background into black and white. This will draw all the attention on to the flower and really make it stand out.
NINA RODER: MUTTER SCHUHE
Nina Röder was born in 1983 in Germany, The piece of work I am looking at by her is "Mutters Schuhe" which translates to "mothers shoes". The photo shows three distinct perspectives of her mother, her grandmother and her own. Nina shows self-reflective moments in her mother’s life, like her prom and her education as a hairdresser.
This work suggests that emotions and time can trigger certain memories. Nina questions how her mother sees herself in her memories, which emotions correspond to which memories, and how her emotions have changed over time. She also looks at how her grandmother remembers these moments in her daughter‘s life and how she feels about them. Finally, Nina considers how much she herself knows about these memories. |
SHOOT 5

This is a narrative shoot I completed in school inspired by Duane Michals. I used Freya as my model to complete this. The story is that Freya found a dying flower on the floor and decides to pick it up and plant it. You then see the flower in 3 stages - when its dead, when its half dead half alive and when its fully alive. This is meant to show that you can help things to make them live again.
WWW- I was really please with how it turned out. I like how you can see the flower in multiple stages of its life. EBI- You can't see the flower in the first and second frame because in the first one Freya's leg is covering it and in the second one you can see it but not very clearly. NEXT STEP- To change the angles so that you can see all the details. |
FINAL PIECE
For my final piece I am going to either do a video clip of a flower watching it bloom from a bud into a flower, and the the healthy flower dying or make a story book involving pictures.
